June 14th, 2001: I was packed and ready to go down to Washington with my sister on Thursday. However, I had to get through a day of work. I decided to work more during the week so I could duck out at 3PM. I took a half hour lunch Thursday and got a haircut... Well, I was looking a little like a mop, so it had to be done. Mary arrived at work at 3PM, and we were ready to go. I said goodbye to my coworkers (I might as well give them their due: Kathleen, Gor, Bill N., Theresa, and Kariann), and started the journey. Lucky for me, no adverse weather conditions hit us. This is the first time in three trips this happened. It turned out that we had to stop in Long Island to see my other sister, Anne-Marie. She had documentation for us so we could get a discounted room rate (It's such a plus to take a vacation while your sister is employed by a major Hotel chain). We stopped in Long Island, and Anne-Marie thought it'd be good to have dinner. It was already 7PM, and we didn't ger out of dinner until 8PM. That took an hour out of our schedules. I was hoping to arrive in DC so that I might have time to do Late Show Impressions for that night, but it was not to be. After saying good-bye to Anne-Marie, we headed south again. We took the Belt Parkway to the Verrazano Bridge. After crossing that, we took the New Jersey Turnpike south. By the way, you don't know how much of a Godsend EZ-Pass is. Say good-bye to loose change! I was under the impression (Hey, cheap plug!) that the trip would take about 7 hours total. Well, I didn't arrive in Gaithersburg (a suburb of Washington, DC, plus the area where my hotel was, until 1:30 AM. Doing some simple math, that places the time of the trip to 10 and a half hours. My dear Lord... Mary and I checked in, and we plopped in our beds. Sleep was nice that night. Jump to a page:
