Prologue: Back in the early winter of 2001, while my area was getting sacked with snow, Traci (formerly from the Hoosierland) sent some AFLers an e-mail announcing DaveCon2001. As AFL did two years prior, a date was set for Letterman fans to come down to NYC and see a taping of the Late Show. Being a part of it both years (see my Eighth Trip Report and Ninth Trip Report), I had to stamp my reservation to go. I would have some vacation time coming to me from Virtual Flow Interactive Media (my employer), and I figured I had ample time to plan. Traci set a date for June 18th, 2001. As spring came, my sister, Mary, had told me that she always wanted to visit Washington, DC. I, too, wanted to revisit DC because the last time I was there, I was violently sick and was taking codeine to dull the pain. So looking ahead, I said, "Well, why don't we visit DC on a weekend?" Then the idea hit me. Why not visit DC on the weekend before DaveCon2001. I can take 4 days to visit DC (from June 14th to June 17th), and then come up to NYC on Monday. Sounded good to me, but then my sister had a better idea. Why not go to DC for the weekend, and then on Sunday visit Philadelphia, PA? She'd always wanted to visit that city as well. Mary also reasoned that the trip to NYC would be shorter. I agreed, and Bill's Whirlwind Trip was set. Before the trip, I was surfing the web, and I came across Lewis Black's web site. I looked at his schedule, checking to see if he'd be in the Albany area any time soon. I then though, on a whim, "Well, let me check if and when he'll be in DC. Maybe I'll get lucky." I got lucky. Turns out Lewis was going to be performing at the DC Improv from June 14th to the 17th. This was too good to be true. My sister called, and got us tickets to see Lewis on Saturday at 10:30 PM. Now the trip got a little more exciting. You could just feel the ants in my pants... OK, that's not an offer, kids... :-) Bill's Whirlwind Tour was set. Come along for the ride, will you?
